This Privacy Policy describes how the "This IP" browser extension ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information when you use the extension.
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Specifically:
This IP requests the following permissions strictly for core functionality. None of these permissions are used to read, modify, or transmit your browsing content:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| activeTab | To read the URL of the current active tab to resolve its IP address. |
| storage | To save your display preferences locally in your browser. |
| alarms | To periodically refresh the IP address resolution in the background. |
| webRequest | To capture IP addresses from network connections for local hostname resolution. |
| host_permissions | To inject the floating IP badge onto the websites you visit. |
To resolve IP addresses when the browser's built-in APIs are unavailable, This IP uses DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) via third-party providers:
These queries contain only the hostname of the website you are visiting (e.g., example.com).
No other information (such as full URLs, page content, or cookies) is included.
This IP stores minimal configuration data (such as badge theme and opacity) locally on your device using
the browser's chrome.storage.local API. Resolved IP addresses are temporarily cached in memory
and are cleared when the browser is closed. No data is synced to cloud accounts or written to permanent storage.
Our extension does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not collect personally identifiable information from anyone, including children under 13.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date at the top.
